The short version: your data never leaves your phone. SpendSense has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and does not even request the internet permission. Everything the app does happens entirely on your device.
SpendSense reads SMS messages on your device (permissions
READ_SMS and RECEIVE_SMS) for a single purpose:
detecting transaction alerts sent by banks, card issuers, and UPI apps, and
converting them into your personal expense history. This is the core
functionality of the app.
You can export a PDF report, your transactions (CSV), or a diagnostic file to your device's Downloads folder. These exports are created only when you tap the export button, are generated entirely on your device, stay on your device, and are under your control.
You may optionally enable an app lock. It uses Android's built-in BiometricPrompt (fingerprint, face, or your phone's PIN/pattern/password). The app does not create, see, or store any biometric data or PIN — authentication is handled entirely by the Android system.
All data lives on your device. You can delete individual transactions in the app, clear all app data from Android Settings, or simply uninstall the app — uninstalling removes the database and all settings permanently.
SpendSense is a general-audience financial tool and is not directed at children under 13.
If the policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL and the "last updated" date revised.
